Setting the Party Scene

It feels like I've only just gotten over Christmas and already my children are talking birthday parties!  Mind you, they're still a few good months away.  My oldest celebrates a birthday in May but she's already in full preparation mode for her party.  The youngest doesn't have a birthday till August but as they say,  there's nothing like being prepared!

So when it comes to a party table setting, whether it be a kids party or a dinner party for adults, I love to go all out and have everything coordinated.  Normally I start off with a colour scheme which is why, when styling a children's party I go for the Sambellina party range.  Their colour range of plates, cups and party bags is endless!  Sambellina makes it so affordable to create a gorgeous party setting.

Do you fancy spots or stripes?

Bean Chair for Comfort and Style

It is so hard to believe that it's around a year to the date that tragic flooding and devastation hit Brisbane and our surrounding areas.  What a year 2011 was, what with floods and earthquakes, the crash of Europe and of course the news of continual problems in the retail sector.

2012 is a new year and Little People's Linen will continue to bring you the best quality range of children's accessories.  We love to give you good quality products for your money.  Products that will not only last years, but will also grow with your child rather than something you'll spend $100 on and only have for a few short months.  Our clients don't return three months later because their child's bed linen has worn out.  They return five long years later and only then,  because their baby is now a small child and has grown out pink and into red or yellow or blue.

This week we are loving the new arrival of Lelby's Contemporary Children's Bean Chairs.  A great example of  a product that is not only good quality for money, but will also last you years.  We love that all the fabrics used are designed exclusively for Lelby's and  are in tones of Brown, Beige and Navy to compliment the colours of adult furnishings.  What a fantastic idea!  All Bean Chairs also come with a no spill inner calico bag for safety and most importantly, ease of cleaning.  The outer sleeve has a child proof zip that requires a paper clip to release and unlock.  Assembling the Bean Chair is as easy as filling the inner sleeve over a bath or large sink (to avoid spillage) and then covering the sleeve with the gorgeous Bean Chair in your chosen fabric.

Back to School

That back to school time of year is almost upon us again, so we wanted to share some tips on how we think you can help to encourage good homework habits for your child. Here are five handy tips to keep in mind...

1. Ensure that the desk chosen has adequate space. It's important that your child can sit comfortably while still having room for an adult to accompany them should they need help. Our recommendations in a desk would be the Sirocco turned or tapered leg desk with a hutch, which is fantastic for extra storage. I love how the drawers in both these desks are hidden yet they are still nice and large. Another great advantage of the Sirocco desks is that two people can sit at the desk quite easily, with a chair fitting comfortably under each drawer.

2. Posture and comfort is important, so a good comfortable chair that grows with your child is a great addition to your child's homework space.

3. Good lighting is important to prevent eye strain and tiredness, so make sure that the work area is well lit.
4. Cork boards or notice boards located close to the desk or work area are a great tool. I find them very useful when displaying my son's words for the week as well as school notices and assignment due dates. Displaying important reminders in this way ensures nothing is forgotten.

5. Labelled storage is a great way to ensure that your child can find exactly what they need as well as returning it to the correct place. Having somewhere specific to store their items will also result in a tidy uncluttered desk, therefore allowing your child the space they need to work efficiently.

Follow these tips and you're well on your way to creating the perfect working environment for your child.

Holidays, Christmas, Rain and Floods!

Guilty as charged my Little People's Linen Blog has been a little neglected these past few months! I am terribly sorry, I thought I would fill you in on what I have been doing!

At the beginning for December we decided to take a two week break we left Brisbane and headed to Singapore for a week and then onto a cruise. So the four of us left Little People's Linen and our new puppy Milo behind and went on this fabulous holiday accompanied by parents of course.
Every where we went strangers commented on what a lovely loving family we are. We all had a wonderful time together full of laughs and just having fun together taking in all of Singapore.
Singapore is an amazing place to visit at Christmas time, every single shopping centre, hotel and Streets are decorated with Christmas decorations it is truly beautiful.
We were so shopped out after 7 days that we could not wait to get onto the cruise ship so we could just relax, for 7 days we hardly saw the children they were so busy with their cruise ship  activities, the staff were just so friendly and could not do enough for us.
We soon returned home and I had 2 days to recover then it was back to Little People's Linen, Natalie and Carole looked after the shop and customers very well while I was away but it was time to give them a break and work full time up and till Christmas, lucky I did all my shopping in Singapore. Most importantly we had to have our staff christmas party before my ladies parted on their holiday so off we went for dinner then a day spa pedicure and a new pair of shoes all in a night.....there is nothing nicer then spoiling someone it is such a nice feeling.
Whilst we had a wonderful holiday and christmas it all seems a distant memory now, these past weeks in Brisbane has been heart breaking and hard to believe our once green leaf queenslander suburbs are surrounded and under water. I must say that I am so proud to live in this wonderful place, as everyone has pulled together to help.
Our store went under in 1974 but while I was away on holidays the council changed all the drainage on Pembroke Rd, I really think this saved us in the end.
We are running daily auctions on our facebook page to help raise money for some of our LPL customers and friends that have been directly effected by the floods and unfortunetly do not have cover.
I will sign off with some non flood images but some images from our holiday, enjoy and I look forward to posting a little more in 2011
